Archaeological Summer Field Schools on Skopelos (ASFS) in 2024 and 2025

The Summer Field Schools on Skopelos are a follow-up and further development of the Summer school organised two years ago in Athens by the ACTS project leaders. The aim is to enhance students’ skills through a hands-on approach to archaeological fieldwork and documentation techniques.
Students will be trained in:
a) Principles of the extensive and intensive archaeological field survey;
b) Topographic reconnaissance;
c) Analysis and processing of ceramic and other finds recovered through survey;
d) Digital documentation of data, using GPS, Laser Profiler, Dino-Lite microscope;
e) Digital data processing and online hosting.
The field activities will take place within the ASkoS project environment, in the mornings and early afternoons, while later afternoons will be dedicated to lectures and attaining practical skills working with archaeological finds in the lab. The aim of the training is to equip students with the skills necessary to independently conduct systematic field surveys in the future and develop critical thinking about field research methods in archaeology.
